Frequently Asked Questions
What genres do you accept?
I am happy to work all genre fiction (fantasy, sci-fi, romance, thriller, horror, mystery, paranormal, YA, and everything in between.) I do not accept non-fiction memoirs at this time, and accept poetry on a case-by-case basis.
Do I need to be a published author to work with you?
Not at all! I love working with new debut authors.
Will I receive a contract?
Yes. I provide all clients a contract detailing our agreement, and author/editor expectations. This contract is meant to protect both myself, and my clients! If you request a NDA, I am happy to add this to our contract.
How are payments handled?
Payments will be processed through Stripe*. After officially agreeing to work together, I will send you a formal invoice and payment request for 30% of your total fee, upfront, in order to lock in your dates. The remaining 70% of your balance is payable at the completion of my finished work package.
*Stripe is a safe global payment processing platform that offers guest checkout and accepts a variety of common payments such as major credit cards, debit cards, and digital wallets.
What if I need to reschedule or cancel?
All rescheduling and cancellation requests must be made 30 days prior to our agreed upon start date. If your manuscript will not be ready in time for our booking, please reach out to me as soon as possible. Cancellation and rebooking after our agreed start date has passed will result in a 5% penalty fee not deducted from your total project cost.
Can you speed up your turnaround time?
I aim to provide the fastest turnaround time based on my availability. I typically cannot offer faster turnaround, but please reach out ahead of booking to see if this is possible.
What format should my manuscript be in?
Once you have paid your deposit, please provide your manuscript as a Word Document.
12 pt font, Times New Roman (or other readable font) is preferred. Reach out if you are not able to provide in this format.
Do you use AI?
I do NOT use generative AI in any editing work. I contractually agree to never input your work into an AI software. I do NOT accept manuscripts created by AI. All work provided to me must be your own.
What happens after I receive my completed editing package?
After you receive the completed editing work package, feel free to take your time reading and digesting it.
For Manuscript Critiques, I allow one round of questions and clarifications within 60 days of receipt of your editing package. For Developmental Editing, I allow up to three rounds of questions and clarifications within 90 days of receipt of your editing package.
Once you have received the completed editing package, please compile all questions or ideas you would like to discuss via email. I will then respond to all of your questions and concerns. This is considered one full round of Q&A.
For authors working on multiple books/series with me, I am happy to have open and fluid communication outside of our bookings. Feel free to discuss your editing needs and story ideas in between projects!
Help! I’m afraid of negative feedback!
No need to worry. I take care to always provide honest but positive feedback. My editorial suggestions will highlight what you do well, and highlight areas of opportunity. You can expect constructive feedback that will elevate the story you’ve already written. My goal is to provide you with the tools and ideas to round out your story in a positive and digestible manner.
